Welcome to the New Zealand Graphic Design Archive.
The NZGDA presents information and research about the history of graphic design in New Zealand. Based at the School of Art and Design at the Auckland University of Technology our collection is virtual, presented through the web site and associated image database. A number of genre and thematic projects within the graphic design arena are presented here. This research process involves the identification and documentation of material in private and public collections, and in locations as diverse as flea markets, garages and company archives. Interviews and contextual research are utilized to build up information about each object and is presented as indexing in the database. Our projects are ongoing, and this site is dynamic. Given the technical and academic parameters, we are committed to an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach. Our research partners include the University of Brighton's Design History Research Centre, the Cooper Union's National Graphic Design Archive, The Auckland Museum and the Auckland City Library.
This online resource allows designers, students, historians, educators and the public to access (and contribute to )an accumulation of knowledge about graphic design history in this country.
