This image was used in an article by Chris Mousdale entitled "digging for gold", about record cover design as a window on New Zealand culture.
Description Front cover; image and text. The front cover is a jolly orange, yellow and black drawing produced in marker pen and colouring pencil. It depicts rows of flames, halloween pumpkins, suns, oranges and lemons, lions, quavers and figures. It has a nursery rhyme childishness which is a counterpointed by the single title "Doledrums". The band name is written large across the top third of the cover in white with a black line border and some shading inside the letter edges. The song titles across the lower cover are similarly white with a black border but with an orange stripe inside the black. [KY]
Description Back cover; image and text. The back cover is rendered in a similar style to the front using the same black marker pen line and orange and yellow colouring pencils. The image is of a seascape with shells and snails and seaweed. Information about band members and recording studios appear to have been photocopied on to acetate and laid over the image before the printing film was shot. The type is in black, sans serif. [KY]
