This image was used in an article by Chris Mousdale entitled "digging for gold", about record cover design as a window on New Zealand culture.
Description Front cover; image and text. The front cover is comprised entirely of a studio photograph of Kiri Te Kanawa with a sky blue background with graduated lighting. The pose implies the artists strength of character - she gazes directly at the viewer. The dress style is perhaps influenced by the new romantic movement of the 1980's but Kiri's dress also suggests a 'Lady Diana' upper class style. She has 'big hair' flicked back and is wearing heavy eyeshadow. She is dressed in a white shirt with high frilled collar, black double breasted jacket with shoulder pads, frilled cuffs, and a white scarf sits under the jacket collar. Accessories are pearl earrings, a diamante brooch on the collar and a gold wristwatch. Three typefaces have been used - a yellow sans serif in capitals, white sans serif capitals with underline and wide tracking, and one hand generated upper and lower case in red cursive script. The Decca logo appears in the bottom right hand corner. [KY]
Description Back cover; text only. The background for the back cover is as described for the front but text replaces the image. The fonts are as on the front with details about copyright in black on bottom left. There is a repeat of the logo at the bottom right. The main feature of the back is a peice of writing by artist about the album in brown cursive script on yellow background. This is presented as a personal or intimate letter. [KY]
