This image was used in an article by Chris Mousdale entitled "digging for gold", about record cover design as a window on New Zealand culture.
Description Front cover; image and text. The front cover, in black and white, consists of four comical cartoon illustrations of action rugby supposedly between the All Blacks and the Springboks. The captions read - "forced down", "return trip", "last minute let down", "victory roll". These images sit across the image plane like scattered photographs. A white on black cartoon in the lower right hand corner shows a Kiwi bird wearing an All Black shirt and holding a football. The Kiwi is cross-eyed and has cartoon squiggles indicating dizziness around its head. At least four different typefaces have been used on the front cover - a mix of upper case, lower case, italic and bold. [KY]
Records of rugby test match commentary were popular in New Zealand in the 1950's and 60's prior to the televising of rugby games. [DM FJ]
Description Back cover; image and text. The back cover is text only and has information about the commentator and narrator in sans serif italics, and the test list and the players of both teams for each test in mixed case serif. At the bottom is information about the record label and distributor in upper case sans serif. [KY]
