Description Front cover; image and text. The background of the front cover is purple. Centred in the bottom half of the cover is a photograph of John Rowles. The photograph is square with rounded corners. Rowles is standing against a background of trees, he is smiling and has his hands on his hips. He is wearing a heavily fringed purple suede jacket, trousers (barely visible) and a pale lilac shirt that is undone at the neck. His hair is parted on the left side and longer at the back. Although not seen, the sun is shining; there are highlights and shadows coming through the trees and on Rowles' hair and clothing. The photograph is framed by a red line which leads from the word 'Marie' in the title of the record; the first vertical of the letter 'M' has been elongated to run all the way around the photograph. The red line is broken by a small space near where it should join the elongated vertical. There is a small frame of the purple background between the photograph and the red line. In the top left centre are the words 'John Rowles' in white. The tails of the 'J' and 'R' both end with curlicues that reference the Koru, a recognised Maori motif. The vertical of the 'L' in Rowles has been elongated upwards so that it runs in parrallel alongside the letter 'N' in the word 'John'. It extends vertically upwards past 'John' to the top of the cover. In the top right centre is the title; 'Cheryl Moana Marie'. It is in red. The 'R' in the word 'Marie' ends with a similar curlicue as before. The descender on the 'Y' in 'Cheryl' has been elongated so that it runs between the 'A' and the 'N' in the word 'Moana'. The vertical of the 'L' in 'Cheryl', the first vertical of the letter 'N' in 'Moana' and the 'I' in 'Marie' have been lined up so as to reference the extended vertical of the 'L' in the singer's name. In the top right corner of the cover is the record number. In the bottom right corner is a small black rectangle that encases a white arrow within it. The arrow head is pointing to the right. Within the arrow in black it says 'MCA records'. The record company logo is to the right of the words in black. [AAF]
Description Back cover; text. The back cover is composed of black text only. In the top left corner are the record number, the words 'MCA stereo' and some text about the recording format. The title of the record has been placed in the top left of the cover. A thin black line that forms a step links the title to the the singer's name which has been placed in the centre right of the cover. The song titles are in two colums in the centre upper third of the cover. They are seperated by the same thin black line that links the title to the singer. Below this are nine horizontal lines of biographical text about the singer. They sit in the bottom third of the cover. The same arrow logo from the front cover sits in the bottom left corner, to the right of it is some text about the record company. In the bottom right corner are the details of the printers. [AAF]
The construction of the record cover at this time is visible from the back of this cover. [AAF]
