Techniques Photocopying
Limited edition of 500 copies made photocopying a viable alternative to the more expensive offset printing process. Photocopied covers were very common in independent record release designs throughout the eighties and nineties until the arrival of cheap color copying and computer inkjet printers.

Subject Topography, spaceman
Description A ballpoint pen drawing has been made on top of an upside down, enlarged and photocopied topographic contour map of land or ocean. It is folded to constitute both front and back cover of the single. This is packaged in a 7" ziplock resealable plastic bag. The figure on the cover is a parody of the early Sci-Fi novellas of the 1930's - 1950's which often depicted a robotic spaceman equippped with rays of sound or light coming from the helmet. The typography is hand lettered using repeated strokes of a thin-nibbed ballpoint pen to create a scratched effect. It is interesting to note that the cover has been photocopied and the continuation wraps half way around the back. This is made possible by using the original US paper sizes. [DM 02.2001]
