This image was used in an article by Chris Mousdale entitled "digging for gold", about record cover design as a window on New Zealand culture.
Description Front cover; image and text. The front is a four colour image with a blue-green flat background. A couple is dancing the 'twist' in the left foreground. The man wears a grey and white striped short-sleeved shirt with a collar, brown stovepipe trousers, white loafer shoes and has combed back hair. The woman wears a pink and white gingham cinch waisted dress with a pink belt and white flat shoes. The overall layout is asymetrical. The text is in red sans serif, black serif, and a hand generated blue highly stylised serif. The record label logo and catalogue number appear in the top right. [KY]
Description Back cover; image and text. The upper third of the back cover has the title of the record in upper and lower case sans serif super bold font, the band name in italic upper case. The track list is in upper case sans serif. The lower third of the cover has a bullet point description of twist motions and a diagrammatic representation of the Twist for both the man and the woman. This consists of grey footprints and black sans serif numbering and text. The catalogue number appears in the top right corner. [KY]
Description The male figure in the image is wearing casual clothes; a striped polo shirt and wine coloured trousers with white moccasins. Casual clothes from this period (late 1950s- early 1960s) were influenced by the 'Italian' style made popular in the UK by Cecil Gee and the mens outfitters 'Austins' of Picadilly. The emphasis was on continental styling, new man made fabrics, colour, and a close fitting cut. The clothes of Cliff Richard from this period are a good example of the style. [CM]
