Subject Venetian blinds, eyes, hands, pointing, sign, doll, mechanism
Description Front cover; image and text. The front cover image is almost entirely made up of black and white horizontal stripes which resemble venetian blinds across a window. A black rectangular sign 'hangs' on an angle from the top of the top of the cover on black string. The words " The Spys" are written on the sign in white upper case balloon style cartooning. In the lower half of the cover the horizontals of the blind are being pulled down by a hand to reveal three pairs of eyes. The pair to the left look far left. The pair in the centre look at the sign. The pair to the right look straight ahead. Another hand points with one finger to the sign above. At the very bottom center of the cover is a white rectangle containing in black the single title. This text is sans serif and upper case. [KY]
Description Back cover; image and text. The back cover is also black and white. There is a large image of a doll to the left. The style of this image suggests that it has been appropriated. The doll faces the center of the cover and has one arm raised. It appears to be Victorian. The back of it has been cut away to reveal a mechanism inside with a handle protruding from its back. Fingers which are cut off by the edge of the cover turn the handle. On the breast of the doll is a flat area with holes in as a speaker. From this emerges a large white jagged speech bubble. This contains the words " Daddy was a DJ" in black upper case. The letters D and J are bold in outline with a drop shadow. Hand written in the speech bubble is the price "$2.75". The Record Label number is in the lower left corner of the cover. In the lower right corner is the Ripper records logo and address. Above this is a logo of three stylised heads wearing hats with the underlined word "Spys" under it. Next to the Record label information is a white sticker with a red outline and the words; "Record Supermarket 91 Cuba Mall Wellington". [KY]
